Upcoming Events for Small Businesses
In Hickory, there are many opportunities to connect with other business owners and learn about setting up a successful business. The following are some upcoming events for local business owners to enhance community engagement and business knowledge.
33rd Annual Golf Classic
The 33rd Annual Golf Classic, hosted by The Chamber of Catawba County, will be held September 29 at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs. This event is designed for business owners to engage with one another in a relaxed environment, and business owners will have the opportunity to win skill awards, raffle prizes, giveaways, and more. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline for registration is September 16.
The Defense Contractor Academy for Small Businesses Engaged in Contracting, hosted by The North Carolina Community College System Small Business Center Network and the North Carolina Military Business Center, is a three-part academy for small businesses involved in contracting. The three-day event will take place September 28-30 and will focus on federal contracts, cyber security, finances, and legal information. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline to register is 7 a.m. the day of the event.
Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Small Business Center is hosting two seminars on September 21 surrounding the topic of strategic planning. The seminar Strategic Planning: Getting Started will discuss how to implement a strategic plan and the different components of a successful plan. The seminar Strategic Planning in Action: How to Keep it Current and Relevant will focus on practical strategies for planning, successful planning, and overcoming some common barriers in strategic planning. These seminars require pre-registration. Accommodations are provided to those with disabilities if alerted two weeks in advance.
Merchants Distributors, LLC (MDI), a wholesale grocery distributor founded in Hickory in 1931, will invest $35 million in a new expansion of its services and operations, creating 125 jobs. The company anticipates adding approximately 250,000 square feet to its perishable capacity at its Caldwell County facilities.
The City of Hickory is hiring a Business Services Coordinator to support the Business Services Manager and work directly with the Office of Communications for marketing purposes. This position is full-time and includes benefits such as city-paid health insurance, paid holidays and sick leave, and more. Business. Well Crafted. Awards Nominations Opening Soon
The Business. Well Crafted. Awards were created in 2018 to highlight and recognize local businesses that support the City’s vision of business development. These awards are given annually to local businesses in the area in different categories: Individual (Entrepreneur of the Year), Youth (Entrepreneur under 25 years old), Business and/or Organization (10 or fewer employees), Business and/or Organization (11 to 50 employees), and Business and/or Organization (51 or more employees). Nominations for the Business. Well Crafted. Awards will be opening at the end of the month, so be on the lookout!
Attention Food Entrepreneurs
Hickory Sandwich Shop is collecting applications from entrepreneurs interested in starting a food business from its commercial kitchen.
