On December 6, 2022, the City of Hickory's Business Development Committee recognized nine businesses for their excellence and community engagement in Hickory with the Business. Well Crafted. Awards. Over the course of the year, the City will be releasing spotlight videos for each award recipient, showcasing what makes them a Business. Well Crafted.
The first of nine spotlights is a family owned Thai restaurant that everyone's bellies have come to love. The Peanut House, formerly J-Thai, is one of two award recipients in the 11-50 employee category. This business was recognized in December 2022 for having a strong focus on their community and bringing the food they love from inside of their own home to the residents and visitors of Hickory, N.C. Start off 2023 with some new connections!HKY4Vets assists transitioning military personnel and families find economic opportunities, resources, and make valuable connections in the Hickory Metro of North Carolina. Through HKY4Vets' (Hickory for Veterans) 1-on-1 interactions with transitioning service members, they have identified an urgent need for a regional networking group in the Hickory MSA for active duty individuals and military families, as well as former military personnel and their families. In an effort to jump start this vision, Professional Connections was created.
The Hickory Metropolitan Area is looking to sustainably offer Professional Connections as a built-in network for professional growth and social opportunity to passionately serve those who have served. Join Active Duty, Military Veterans, Guard, Reservists, Military Spouses, and Supportive Allies at Dive Bar in Downtown Hickory on January 24 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. In order to assist with planning, preregister at the link below.
On March 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., you're invited to a unique virtual talent recruitment event, connecting your company with soon-to-be college graduates looking for a first career opportunity or students seeking an internship to gain some "real world" experience. This event will also include marketing outreach to transitioning military and military spouse talent.
Using the power of a virtual event platform, the EDC is targeting student participation from a number of higher education institutions across Western NC and the Piedmont, including: Lenoir-Rhyne University, Catawba Valley Community College, Appalachian State University, Western Piedmont Community College, University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Western Carolina University, and other institutions within a 100-mile range. The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) is helping businesses meet their 2023 goals with an incredible course. "Taking the Leap – Kickstart Your Business in 4 Weeks" is a free four-week cohort where participants will learn about different aspects of starting a business, including identifying potential markets, writing a business plan, running the finances of a business, and marketing a business. You’ll work with mentors and peers in fun breakout activities designed to help strengthen your business ideas and prepare you for success!
The free cohort will begin on February 7 and end on February 28. Classes will be 2 hours long, from 6-8 p.m., and will be virtual. Visit SBTDC's website at the link below to find out more about this and other great opportunities to help your business succeed in this new year.
