Community Survey for Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update
The City of Hickory continues to work on updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan. As part of this process, the City has contracted with an independent consulting firm, ETC Institute, to conduct a statistically valid community survey. Select households will be randomly selected to participate in this survey. Please keep an eye on your mailbox this month to see if your address was selected. If so, please assist by completing the survey as soon as possible.
Hickory 101
The City of Hickory will offer Hickory 101 this fall for citizens wishing to learn about the inner workings of local government. A condensed version of the popular Neighborhood College program, Hickory 101 provides a broad overview of Hickory’s local government in five sessions. The class will run each Thursday afternoon, from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., September 29 through October 27. Spaces are filling up fast! Sign up today.
Seeking Contractors, Handyman Services for Housing Rehabilitation Programs
The City of Hickory is seeking contractors and handyman services to participate in the housing rehabilitation programs offered to homeowners within Hickory city limits. The City’s two housing rehabilitation programs aim to improve the quality of the local housing stock and make improvements that prevent the displacement of low to moderate income homeowners. Rehabilitation projects may pay up to $25,000 for Housing Rehabilitation and $10,000 for Urgent Repair.
Merchants Distributors, LLC (MDI), a wholesale grocery distributor founded in Hickory in 1931, will invest $35 million in a new expansion of its services and operations, creating 125 jobs. The company anticipates adding approximately 250,000 square feet to its perishable capacity at its Caldwell County facilities.
The Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run on Friday, August 19, at 9 p.m. at the Lake Hickory Trails. Register by August 5 to receive early registration discount pricing.
