Calling all future tennis stars! On Thursday, October 13, come out to the Ridgeview Branch Library at 4:30 p.m. to learn about two tennis legends, Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson, who helped make tennis more accessible to all. Afterwards, we’ll take that knowledge to the courts and have some fun learning more about tennis hands-on. Wear your play clothes! For ages 7 to 14. Participation is free, but registration is required . This program is presented in partnership with the Greater Hickory Tennis Association and Ridgeview Branch Library. Have you ever had the chance to run through Hickory in your Halloween costume!? Join us for this fun Halloween-themed 5K on Saturday, October 15, at 9:00 a.m. The race will start and finish at Highland Recreation Center. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Bill McDonald Scholarship Fund. Registration will be available online until Saturday, October 15, at 8:45 a.m. Prices increase on October 1st. Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department and the Hickory Public Library have teamed up to bring you Hickory's newest hiking club! Our next hike will be on Saturday, October 15, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Bakers Mountain. This club is open to hikers of all ages and experience levels. Children under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by an adult. Participation is free, but registration is required, and space is limited. The annual Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting is sponsored by Lowes Foods, and will be held on Friday, November 18, starting at 5:45 p.m. in Downtown Hickory. City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department presents a 6 day, 5 night motorcoach guided tour of New Orleans. The tour includes, but is not limited to: admission to the National World War II Museum, admission to Mardi Gras World, and a relaxing riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River.
