Hickory receives $50K T-Mobile Hometown Grant

Samuel Davis Field 900x500 (1)

The City of Hickory has been selected to receive a $50,000 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile to make improvements at Taft Broome Park. The Hometown Grant funds will be used to update Samuel William Davis, Sr. Multipurpose Field, which was the home field of the former Ridgeview High School and The Untouchables, the 1964 football team that made history with a perfect season. Updates will include improvements to the field’s turf, PA system, netting, and fencing. These investments will provide an enhanced facility for sports and community events and help to preserve the rich history of the former Ridgeview High School.

Mulch Available

mulch

Just in time for spring landscaping, the City of Hickory is now selling single ground mulch. Get your scoops at the City’s Yard Waste Facility on Cloninger Mill Road, while you can. The facility is open Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., until supply is gone. Single ground mulch is just $25 per 3-yard scoop (full-size pickup truck load).

The single ground mulch is made from yard waste collected by Solid Waste crews throughout the year. The mulch is composed of tree limbs that are ground into useable material for your landscape. For more information, call the Public Services Department at 828-323-7500.
