During the next several months (April and May), firefighters will implement the annual hydrant inspection and maintenance program throughout the City of Hickory service area. During this process, firefighters and public utilities personnel will be working very close to busy streets while actually flowing water from hydrants. The City of Hickory offers two housing rehabilitation programs that aim to improve the quality of the local housing stock and make improvements that prevent the displacement of low to moderate income homeowners.
The Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the 38th Annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12, at Henry Fork River Park. The event has four separate Easter egg hunts for different age groups, beginning at 6 p.m.
Hickory Public Library will host the inaugural Hickory Literary Festival with featured performer Lucky Diaz on Saturday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the SALT Block. This free community event is open to all ages and designed to celebrate reading, writing, books, and creativity.
Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day with the City of Hickory and the Community Appearance Commission during the fourth annual Green Fest at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market on Saturday, April 26. Stop by the City’s booths from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free potted trees, milkweed seeds to attract monarch butterflies, vegetable and flower seeds, potted indoor plant starts, additional giveaways, and information about environmental stewardship.
The Community Relations Council will host the second annual Hickory Multicultural Festival on Saturday, April 26, from 4-7 p.m. in downtown Hickory. The event brings the community together and celebrates our differences by sharing the art, music, dance, food, and other aspects of the many cultures represented in Hickory.
