Fire Prevention Week

Charge into Fire Safety 900x500

Hickory Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®)—the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week™ for more than 100 years—to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11) campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” It highlights how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries safely. Curbside Leaf Collection Begins Nov. 10

leaves

City of Hickory Public Works crews collected more than 8 million pounds of leaves during the 2024-2025 leaf season, and crews are geared up and ready to begin this year’s loose leaf collection on Nov. 10. Curbside leaf collection will continue until Jan. 16, 2026, per the announced schedule.

Until curbside leaf collection officially begins in November, citizens are asked to refrain from raking leaves to the curb and are reminded to place leaves in reusable yard waste bags, 32-gallon containers marked Yard Waste, or clear plastic bags for collection on their regularly scheduled garbage collection day.
