Abilities Tennis Clinics is partnering with the Greater Hickory Tennis Association to host free tennis clinics to athletes with intellectual disabilities. Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate. Clinics are scheduled for April 5 and April 19, from 1-3 p.m. at Neill Clark Gym.
Celebrate Autism Awareness Month by participating in the Autism Awareness Fun Walk at Bruce Meisner Park on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participation is free, but donations are accepted with all proceeds benefiting We Rock the Spectrum of Hickory.

Spring Break Camps
Highland: Not sure how to entertain your kids during spring break? Let us do the entertaining at Highland Recreation Center’s Spring Break Camp. Kids ages 8-13 are invited to spend April 21-25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., taking day trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum, Bo’s Arcade, and more. The price for Hickory residents is $130, while nonresidents can participate for $150.
Brown Penn: Kids are guaranteed to have a fantastic spring break at this year’s Brown Penn Spring Break Camp! From April 21-25, kids are invited to participate in fun activities and entertaining excursions.
The second race in the Hickory 5K Series is the brand new Aviation 5K. Runners will begin at Winkler Park, then run across the Hickory Aviation Walk bridge. All participants will receive a custom t-shirt and a chance to win a custom medal. For more information on this 5K and the entire 5K series, contact Lance Riddile at lriddile@hickorync.gov.
Henry Fork River Park features an 8,000-square-foot picnic shelter with a catering kitchen, restrooms, picnic tables, and grills. Ten soccer fields and two playgrounds are also on site, with paved walking trails, a canoe launch, and horseshoe pits. Henry Fork River Park is located at 5655 Sweet Bay Lane in Hickory.
