The Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the Back to School Bash and Dance on Saturday, August 24, at Taft Broome Park. The Back to School Bash is a fun annual event where students of all ages can get ready to go back to school in style. Kids can get free haircuts, have their faces painted, and win great prizes from 5-8 p.m. From 7:30-9:30 p.m., kids in grades 3-8 are invited to a Back to School Dance at the Brown Penn Recreation Center next to Taft Broome Park. A DJ will play music while kids dance the night away with finger food and drinks provided. The presenting sponsor of the Back to School Bash and Dance is Modern Nissan of Hickory. Additional sponsors include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Legacy Sports and Development. Taft Broome Park is located at 115 7th Ave SW in Hickory. Saturday Screenings
Sit back, relax, and enjoy free movies this summer! The film series will feature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) on August 10 and The Princess Bride on August 24. All movies are family-friendly with ratings of G or PG. Weather permitting, the outdoor screenings will take place at Union Square in downtown Hickory starting at 8:30 p.m. Concessions and games will be available before each movie begins. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday Screenings are presented by Jay Brown, Realtors® and hosted by the City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department in partnership with the Footcandle Film Society.
Teen Night
Calling all teens ages 14-17! On Friday, August 9, from 5:30–8:30 p.m., we are taking a trip to Kool Park Pool for an evening of swimming and fun. The inaugural Ruff, Ruff, Run 5K and Festival will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Winkler Park located at 2500 Clement Boulevard in Hickory. The schedule of events for the festival will be:
11 a.m. - Festival begins (food trucks, music, dog vendors) 1 p.m. - 5K race begins (run with your dog) 2:30 p.m. - Dog Yoga

Let’s get ready to boogie! The third annual Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run will take place on Friday, August 16, starting at 9 p.m. on the Lake Hickory Trails. This course will consist of off-road trails that include hills, descents, tight turns, roots, rocks, and other trail-type features. All participants will be required to have a light in the form of a headlamp or flashlight.
Do you think your company has what it takes to be named the Corporate Challenge Champion?! The Corporate Challenge is a competition amongst organizations where each team will go head to head in a variety of activities including dodgeball, cornhole, pickleball, trivia, and more.
