Registration is now underway for the City of Hickory's Youth Fall Soccer, Youth Tackle Football, and Co-ed Youth Fall Baseball & Softball programs. Participation is free to all City of Hickory residents. Nonresidents can also participate by paying a $40 nonresident fee. Participants will also purchase their team jersey during the registration process in order to complete registration.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy free movies this summer! Saturday Screenings take place at 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of July and August. The film series will feature Little Giants on July 13, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey on July 27, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) on August 10, and The Princess Bride on August 24. All movies are family-friendly with ratings of G or PG. Weather permitting, the outdoor screenings will take place at Union Square in downtown Hickory. Concessions and games will be available before each movie begins. Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday Screenings are presented by Jay Brown, Realtors® and hosted by the City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department in partnership with the Footcandle Film Society.
Teen Night
We’re hosting a Teen Night on Friday, July 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Kids ages 14-17 will have the opportunity to go to Bo’s in Lenoir, NC, for a variety of games and activities.
Build your own hopper bird feeder at the Hopper and Natural Bird Feeder Workshop on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. Wild Birds Unlimited will give a brief a presentation on natural ways to feed birds. All workshop participants will leave this workshop with a hopper feeder, seed, and several different types of natural bird feeders.
Break out your best reflective gear and join us on the Lake Hickory Trails for the third annual Lightning Bug Boogie 5K! The race will take place on Friday, August 16, starting at 9 p.m.
All recreation centers are closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Parks operate on a normal schedule.

Park Highlight
Lowes Foods City Park is located at 306 Main Ave NW. It features an enclosed playground with an interactive water feature as well as art, education, restrooms, picnic tables, and park benches.
