The second annual Juneteenth Festival will be held on Saturday, June 8, from 5:30-9 p.m. at Samuel William Davis, Sr. Multipurpose Field. Hosted by Dr. Ginny Wright, the Juneteenth Festival will feature live music by Baby Black Band, kid-friendly activities, dance performances, food trucks, vendors, resources, and more. The event is sponsored by the United Arts Council of Catawba County and The Fellowship 1.3.
Pitch, Hit and Run
We’ve partnered up with the Hickory Crawdads to host the Pitch, Hit and Run competition on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Jaycee Park. Kids ages 7-14 have the chance to show off their baseball or softball skills while competing against others in their age groups. Winners have the chance to attend and compete in a championship event during the 2024 MLB World Series!
Join us on Saturday, June 29 at 10 a.m. for the Bike Safety Rodeo! This event is held at Hickory City Park, in partnership with the Hickory Police Department. Bikers of all ages can participate in a bike safety skills course, bicycle games, bike inspections, helmet fittings and more. No registration is required.
Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run
Break out your best reflective gear and join us on the Lake Hickory Trails for the third annual Lightning Bug Boogie 5K! The race will take place on Friday, August 16th starting at 9:00 p.m.
We’re partnering with Lenoir-Rhyne University for the Summer Track Series. On Thursdays from May 30 through June 22, participants of all ages can compete in a variety of track events at the Lenoir-Rhyne Track.
Not ready to adopt a furry friend of your own? That can’t stop you from creating your own easy-to-care-for pet rock at June’s Pet Rock Workshop! Join us at Highland Recreation Center on Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m. to create an adorable, lovable “creature” to take home with you.

Kiwanis Park- Features two picnic shelters with tables and grills, tennis court, outdoor basketball court, four lighted baseball fields, two batting cages, walking trail, restrooms, concession stand, Charles D. Dixon Memorial Splash Pad, and two playgrounds, including the Zahra Baker All Children’s Playground and treehouse.
