Registration is now underway for the City of Hickory's Youth Basketball and Indoor Soccer programs. Participation is free to all City of Hickory residents, and non-residents can also participate by paying a $40 non-resident fee. Each participant will also purchase their team jersey to complete registration. Online registration for both youth sports programs is available through Oct. 9 at hickory.recdesk.com. If it is your child’s first time participating with the Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department, a copy of his or her birth certificate must be turned in at the Administrative Offices, located at 1451 8th Street Drive NE, prior to participation.

The Hickory Hikers are hiking the Riverbend Family Loop at Riverbend Park on Friday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. The Riverbend Family Loop is a 2-mile trek featured on the Catawba County Parks Trail Challenge. The annual Trick or Trot 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m. This Halloween-themed and family-friendly race will begin and end at Highland Recreation Center. This race is open to all ages and abilities. Costumes are encouraged!
Come out to Brown Penn Recreation Center on Friday, Oct. 25, for the annual Trunk or Treat Festival! This free, family-friendly event takes place from 5-8 p.m. and includes games, raffles, a haunted stage, and lots of candy! Sponsors include Modern Automotive and Lake Hickory Haunts.
Hickory Cyclo-Cross Race
In partnership with Noth Carolina Cyclo-Cross, Hickory will be hosting the sixth race in the 2024 series on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Races will be held at Winkler Park, and registration is open to anyone ages 9 and up.
Henry Fork River Park is located at 5655 Sweet Bay Lane. Across 66 acres, this park features an 8,000-square-foot picnic shelter with catering kitchen, picnic tables and grills, ten soccer fields, and two playgrounds. It also has a concession stand, paved walking trail, and a canoe launch.
